Molecular Neuroscience

Our goal is to understand how molecular, cellular and network mechanisms interact to generate learning, memory and cognition.

The brain is organized across multiple biological scales, from molecules and synapses to neural circuits and large-scale brain networks. Our research investigates how these different levels interact during normal cognitive function and neurological disease.

We study the molecular regulation of synaptic plasticity, activity-dependent gene expression, epitranscriptomic regulation, whole-brain functional organization, and computational principles of memory formation. Our objective is to identify fundamental mechanisms that explain how cognitive functions emerge from coordinated biological processes.

To address these questions, we combine whole-brain activity mapping, advanced microscopy, electrophysiology, multi-electrode array recordings, viral gene delivery, genome and epitranscriptome analyses, synaptosome biochemistry, quantitative proteomics, graph theory, and computational approaches using mouse models, primary neuronal cultures, and human brain tissue.
