Research groups

EHU-iBio integrates 18 research units led by 30 IPs and co-IPs embedded in three main areas:

Soil and vegetation health: To offer a comprehensive view of environmental agrobiology, from molecular mechanisms and the interconnection of plants with their environment to the bioengineering of plant species and soils.

• Ecosystem health: To promote the conservation of biodiversity and terrestrial ecosystem resilience through hologenomic tools that decipher the complex interactions between crop management and other human activities in communities of plants, microorganisms, and animals.

Human health: To address health challenges through epidemiological studies, the development of preclinical models associated with pathologies, and validation in patient samples.

Education & Training

We contribute extensively to the Bachelor studies at the Faculty of Science & Technology and the Faculty of Medicine and Pharmacy at EHU

We lead and contribute to the international Master programmes of Molecular Biology and Biomedicine and Environmental Agrobiology.

We pursue an internationally competitive PhD programme embedded in the PhD schools of Environmental Agrobiology, Ecosystems biology, Molecular Biology and Biomedicine, and Biomedical Research. We offer personalised PhD training supported by transversal Thesis advisory committees (TAC) and a vibrant research community.

We provide mentoring and training programmes for junior researchers at all career stages, including towards pursuing independency (e.g. Ikerbasque, Juan de la Cierva, Ramon y Cajal, EMBO, and ERC programmes)

News & Events

Workshop: From cell to UMAP

We offer a 2-weeks workshop to develop wet lab and bioinformatics kills to handle single cell sequencing experiments. From sample and library preparation all the way to sequencing alignment and data analysis using R. (Registration and other details coming soon)

Poster & Pintxos

In May, we hosted our first Poster & Pintxos session to get together, and to explore the outstanding research projects of our PhD students in a relaxed environment and sprinkled with basque food and drinks.
